Arcane Quarter has been sent to proofing. We're probably looking at three weeks until it's available. More later.

It's great to see you guys making headway with things again. I know there's been a lot of real-world stuff to deal with lately. My best to everyone, especially JD and Stan! I hope things are coming together for you two and if there's anything I can do to help, let me know.

I understand that Marc (and our proofer, Vince) had a particularly busy last couple of weeks, but I'm hoping that we'll see the final product posted for sale soon.

Over on ENWorld, Nikchik says they're not going to solicit any more 3.5 print products, which I guess makes sense. (Goodman Games is stopping their 3.5 production in January, for instance.)
Any chance you guys could put this up as a POD at Lulu? |

Lulu is something we've considered now and again for a while, so it's definitely a possibility.

Still interested in getting this. Is there still a chance it will surface?

Lord, I hope so--but I've learned to stop making predictions about when it's going to come out.
Marc? Any ETA? JD |

Marc tells me that he has Arcane Quarter back from the proofer, and expects to get it processed for publication online (as a PDF) in the next week or so.
I know you're getting tired of hearing me say this, but I'm sorry this has taken so long. JD |

Any new word on Arcane Quarter's release yet? What's Marc been up to these days? Are you guys holding the release until 4e comes out? Waiting
for GenCon?

Sigh. Once again, I have to report that Marc has been delayed (this time by the latest strain of the flu). However, he has been working, even while he's
sick, and has sent around copies of the file for final comments--so I'm guessing it's real, real close.

The release of Arcane Quarter on Monday is great news - I can't wait to buy it!
The obvious question, though, is what plans do you have for the remainder of the city? Will the future quarters be 3.5 or 4th edition? |

Still unknown at this point. I don't know if you've seen my blog (jediwiker.livejournal.com), but I've been making some posts lately about how I
just don't know enough about 4E to decide whether I like it yet or not. (And, so far, what I've seen hasn't thrilled me like it has others.)
Considering that Paizo is still doing 3.5 material for their Pathfinder campaign setting, I think there's probably plenty of impetus to continue with 3.5
for the City Quarters.
Now to find time to write them ... JD |

I wasn't going to mention a competitor's product, but since you brought it up . . .
I think Paizo has shown a lot of courage to continue to support 3.5 with their Pathfinder line; I also think they've made a good business decision. Wizards' decision to release 4E seems to be far less popular than their decision to release 3.5 (which had no small number of detractors once upon a time) and I do not know of a single gamer in my (admittedly small) circle of friends who plans to spend his hard-earned cash on 4E. We all have plenty of 3.5 material - more than we could ever use, actually - and plenty of house rules to smooth over the rough edges. While Wizards pursues 4E, I think there will be a significant 3.5 market who will reward publishers that continue to support their preferred system with new releases. That said, if the Mechanics chose to release the remaining City Quarters books in 4E, then those books would probably be the ONLY 4E products that I would ever buy. Why? Because Christopher West's maps and the descriptive text would be worth it even if I had to generate the stat blocks on my own. For what it's worth, I hope that the Mechanics choose to finish the City Quarters line with the 3.5 system. It would be a shame to have a city divided by two editions - I'm imagining a white line painted through the center of town and a visitor asking a local what the line is for . . . |
