The product line doesn't sell if the publisher doesn't release new material. We call this a downward spiral. The Game Mechanics used to have an active website. This forum used to have active discussions. Liberty used to be an evolving and thriving community. I don't know exactly why the Game Mechanics' production suffered, but I do know that it won't resume unless the Game Mechanics believe that their products will sell. If you enjoy Liberty and want to see the rest of the series released, then you need to speak up and reassure the Game Mechanics that the market is still there. In 2008, only six people have posted on this forum and one of the six was a Game Mechanic. He's not going to encourage his business associates to work on Liberty for just five potential customers. If you're still interested in Liberty, then you need to post here so the Game Mechanics will know . . .

Buying everything, and spreading the word are probably the best things we can do for the line! Having said that, yeah, I'm still looking forward to future books. To be honest, Arcane Quarter wasn't much use to me, since magic is so different in my campaign that little of it was applicable - something I always knew would be the case, of course, and is no criticism on the Mechanics. Similarly, Temple Quarter was only partially useful, as I found it very difficult to map the gods in it to those in my campaign. But Thieves' Quarter was great, and all of the next three should be very useful - a fighter is a fighter, no matter what your campaign looks like, and it's the same for nobles. First was the fact that all of us got day jobs, which left a lot less time for writing, editing, layout, and so on. Suddenly, working on Arcane Quarter became something we could only do when we had spare time. Second, we were named in a federal lawsuit. An author alleged that we had published products that infringed on his intellectual property. It wasn't true, and the case against us was eventually dropped, but, for a while there, it looked like we were going to spend every last dime of the company's money proving that we had nothing to do with the original infringement (by a completely different game company). Understandably, none of us were willing to make money just to hand it over to someone else. Right now, though, we're up against the whole 4th Edition question: STILL not having seen the GSL (or the new rules), none of us have been able to make an informed decision about whether converting to 4E is the wisest course of action. We know that we can continue to publish using 3.5 rules, but we don't yet know if there's going to be a market for 3.5 products for much longer--especially given that the leading 3.X "holdout" is Paizo, and their Pathfinder RPG is a significant departure even from the d20 SRD. So, what's holding up Mercenary Quarter right now is the fact that we may have to convert it--but we don't yet know what we'd be converting it to. Normally, I'd ask for your opinions; you are the audience, after all. However, I think I've made it fairly clear in posts on my blog and on ENWorld that what I've seen of 4E so far has left a very bad taste in my mouth, and so I'm practically discounting 4E as a choice from the very beginning. (But the jury is still out. I'd need to see the complete rules first.) That leaves only two choices--and, again, I haven't seen all of the Pathfinder rules, so I don't yet know whether I want to join the Paizo camp, either. So, Mercenary Quarter may be a while off. Sorry to keep you waiting like this, but we are cursed to live in interesting times. JD

Never have I seen a city setting with such an interesting underworld element. Even from the initial descriptions of the city, I could see so many great adventure hooks! I just ran my group through Ring of Thieves (using 4e) and it was easy to convert. They loved it. SO much better than all the crap dungeon crawls WotC is releasing. I have also been using the Arcane and Temple quarter suppliments and so wish I could take my campaign into the House of the Holy adventure. This series provides a great backdrop for an urban campaign (possibly the best on the market) and although written for 3.X easily convert to 4.0. Please do not let this great work of genius disappear due to a version changover, licensing, or whatever! I have actually been using it to replace "Regalport" in my Eberron campaign, and it has even been pretty simple to convert it over to that setting (and even to use it for many pre-gen adventures geared for Sharn).

I've got both Thieves and Temple (in both PDF and print), Ring of Thieves, and two copies of the Liberty map. I'd kinda given up on anything else being released and only checked the Game Mechanics 'site today on impulse (I'm glad I did though ). I really look forward to more releases (PDF and/or print). As for gaming system. I've moved on to Savage Worlds now so whatever you choose works for me (unless it's Savage Worlds, I'll have to convert it anyway ) Welcome back

Add to that the weirdness of the whole 4th Edition/GSL vs. 3rd Edition/OGL thing, and things become even hazier. JD
